Todd Chamberlain Named MIVA Player Of The Week
January 21, 2009 | Men's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. ? Ball State men's volleyball senior outside attacker Todd Chamberlain (Louisville, Ky./Trinity H.S.) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Player of the Week for his performance in last Saturday's match versus No. 4 Stanford. This is Chamberlain's first career MIVA Player of the Week honor.
"Todd turned in a tremendous effort against Stanford last weekend and truly earned this honor," said Ball State head coach Joel Walton. "For our team to succeed this season, we need Todd to give us those kind of performances on a nightly basis. Todd has played alongside some strong players over his career, and now as a senior, I look for him to take his game to the next level and turn into a go-to player for our program."
In BSU's season-opener versus No. 4 Stanford last Saturday, Chamberlain tied a career-high with a match-best 20 kills in the three-game loss. The 20 kills tie as the sixth-best effort in a three-game match in the BSU record books during the rally scoring era.
A 2009 Preseason All-MIVA selection, Chamberlain also finished the contest with a .410 (20-4-39) attack percentage, while adding three block assists and a match-best 21.5 points.
Entering Friday's match at No. 1 Penn State, Chamberlain ranks 16th in program annals with a 2.85 career kills-per-game average, and needs 215 more kills to pass Lee Killian's (1980-83) career total of 844 kills for 20th on BSU's all-time career kill list. Chamberlain currently has 630 career kills.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will hit the road for the first time this season, when it travels to No. 1 Penn State Friday and St. Francis Saturday. Both matches are slated to start at 7 p.m.
