
Men's Tennis Loses To No. 15 Illinois In Season Opener

URBANA, Ill. - The Ball State University men's tennis team dropped its season opener to No. 15 Illinois Friday night by a score of 7-0 at the Atkins Tennis Center.
Sophomore Shaun Bussert (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) alongside teammate freshman Jon Wegener (Muncie, Ind./Heritage Hall) lost first 8-1 to Roy Kalmanovich and Brian Livingston.? The closest doubles tandem score of the night for Ball State was at No. 1 with seniors Jose Perdomo (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Jose) and Jorge Rodriguez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/San Ignacio) losing 8-4 to Mark Czerwinski and Billy Heiser.
In singles action Bussert came close to winning the first set but lost 7-6 (7) and would go on to lose the second set 6-3 to Ruan Roelofse at the No. 4 spot.? Freshman Andres Monroy (Mexico City, Mexico) dropped his first set 7-5 to Meedo El Tabakh and went on to lose the second set 6-1.
Illinois is just one of five Big Ten teams the Ball State men's tennis team will face this season.? The Cardinals home opener is Wednesday against IPFW at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center beginning at 2 p.m.
