WVB Post-Match Reception/Muncie Connections

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's volleyball team will host a post-match reception following the final contest of the 2008 Ball State Active Ankle Challenge which pits the Cardinals against 18th-ranked Purdue at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Worthen Arena.
The post-match reception, which is hosted by the Cardinal Varsity Club and sponsored by the Ball State Federal Credit Union, is open to all fans in attendance and will feature complimentary Pepsi products and snacks. During the reception, fans will get an opportunity to hear from BSU head coach Dave Boos about his vision for the program, meet the 2008 Ball State women's volleyball team and see planned improvements for the locker room.
In addition to Saturday's post-match reception, the 2008 Ball State Active Ankle Challenge will be full of Muncie connections, with three players and two coaches returning to play inside Worthen Arena.
The Boilermakers return three Muncie products in head coach Dave Shondell, assistant coach John Shondell and senior libero Kelli Miller. Tennessee Tech has two players with Muncie connections in senior setter Katherine Lang and junior outside hitter Teresa Craig.
Dave Shondell, who is in his sixth season as Purdue's head coach, was a two-year letterwinner for the Ball State men's volleyball team (1978 & 1980) and spent 13 seasons as the head coach at Muncie Central High School, guiding the Bearcats to four state titles.
John Shondell, who is also in his sixth season as Purdue's assistant coach, was a four-year letterwinner for the Ball State men's volleyball team (1989, 1991-93) and spent nine years as head coach of the New Castle Chrysler High School, where he coached current BSU junior Rachel Alcorn (New Castle, Ind./Chrysler H.S.).
Both Shondell brothers were also highly active in the Munciana Volleyball Club, where they each won national championships.
Miller was a four-time All-State honoree at Muncie Central High School, where she helped guide the Bearcats to state titles her sophomore and senior seasons. The East Central Indiana Volleyball Player of the Year as a junior, Miller was the 47th-ranked recruit in the country as listed in prepvolleyball.com's senior aces. Miller enters the 2008 Active Ankle Challenge with a team-best 3.55 digs-per-set average.
Lang was a four-time state champion for Steve Shondell at Burris Laboratory School and helped guide the Owls to a perfect 40-0 record and a national championship in 2004. Lang was named a prepvolleyball.com All-American after the 2004 season. She enters the 2008 Active Ankle Challenge with a 10.70 assists-per-set average, while setting Tennessee Tech to a .220 hitting percentage as a team.
Craig helped guide Burris Laboratory School to three state titles over her prep career, including the 2004 national championship season. She was also a two-time all-state honoree for the Owls. Craig enters the weekend with a 1.50 kills-per-set average and a 2.40 digs-per-set average.
