MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team travels to Marquette for the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Friday through Sunday. This is the second year the Cardinals have competed in the classic in its new tournament format.
Ball State faces Big Ten foe Northwestern in doubles action Friday at 11 a.m. The Cardinals will play their first singles match against Marquette at 1 p.m. Marquette's coach Steve Rodecap is a former player of Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards.
Saturday the Cardinals take on Wisconsin at 1 p.m., in singles action and Marquette at 3 p.m., in doubles play.
Ball State will close out the tournament Sunday after taking on Northwestern at 9 a.m., in singles play and finish the day with doubles against Wisconsin at 11 a.m.
"Everyone is excited to play the Milwaukee Tennis Classic," said Richards. "It is a first- class event which is embraced by the city of Milwaukee. The competition will be very tough so it will give us a good idea where we stack up very early. I think we have a nice blend of returning players and newcomers and I am anxious to see how everyone performs."
Ball State returns four players from last season's squad which posted a 12-13 overall record and went 4-1 in Mid-American Conference action. The Cardinals also welcome five freshmen this season.
