MUNCIE, Ind. - Sophomore Shaun Bussert (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) of the Ball State men's tennis team has been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic.
Bussert boasts a 3.742 GPA in the Honors College at BSU. As a true freshman, he was named to the Mid-American Conference All Tournament team.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
"This is a great honor for Shaun," said head men's tennis coach Bill Richards. "To maintain over a 3.5 gpa while playing at a very high level on the court and making the MAC All-Tourney team as a freshman are great accomplishments. I am very proud of him."
The Cardinals will open their season Friday, Sept. 19 at the Milwaukee Classic.
