Three Cardinals Receive All-MAC Honors

MUNCIE, Ind. ? Junior Jose Perdomo along with freshmen Shaun Bussert and Eduardo Pavia of the Ball State University men's tennis team have received All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2008 season. The announcement was made by the league office today.

Perdomo was named First Team All-MAC for the second straight season. Perdomo went 4-1 in MAC singles play. He also went 5-2 overall in doubles play with teammate Jorge Rodriguez. He has earned singles victories against Chicago State, Western Michigan, Buffalo and Toledo. His lone loss was to Northern Illinois.

Bussert received All-MAC Tournament honors after a stunning performance against Toledo in the semifinals Friday evening. Bussert's come-from-behind three set victory over Toledo's Tyler Sonkin at No. 5 singles clinched Ball State's 4-3 win over the Rockets advancing them to the championship match against Western Michigan.

Pavia became Ball State's fifth MAC Newcomer of the Year in school history. The true freshman was tabbed First Team All-MAC and named to the All-MAC Tournament team. Pavia played at No. 2 singles for the Cardinals. He went 23-19 overall with a 3-2 MAC record. Pavia also played at No. 2 doubles for BSU. The Cardinals have received the All-MAC Newcomer of the Year the last two seasons with sophomore Bret Berryman winning it in 2007.

"Post season awards are always a nice reflection of the team," said head coach Bill Richards. "I am especially proud of Eduardo Pavia and Shaun Bussert for receiving these awards as freshmen this speaks well for our future. Jose had a good conference regular season, unfortunately he had a tough week but I am glad they recognized him for his efforts. The MAC Newcomer Award is a well deserved honor for Eduardo."

Ball State men's tennis ended its season after losing the MAC Title match to Western Michigan at Northern Illinois Saturday, April 26. The Cardinals have advanced to the MAC Title match the last four seasons (2005-08).
