
Softball Goes 1-2 At UT-Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. ? The Ball State softball team defeated Indiana State 5-1 to start the Hospitality House Classic. The Cardinals dropped a game to UT-Martin in extra innings and were also defeated by Minnesota in game three.
In game one, Lisa Rozanski hit a two-out double allowing Kamilah Holle to score the first run of the game.
The Cardinals increased their lead in the third inning with a double steal sending Amanda Pick to second and Abby Gross home.
A sacrifice fly from Rozanski in the fourth inning put the Cardinals on top 3-1. Rozanski finished the game 3-3.
Holle hit a double in the fifth inning with two runners on and two outs pushing the BSU lead to 5-1.
Tiffany Garofano was on the mound for the Cardinals. Garofano threw a complete game and only allowed two hits. She also recorded six strikeouts taking her season total to 36.
In game two, Elizabeth Milian led off the fourth inning with a double. Katelyn Gunderson entered the game to pinch run for Milian. After Alyssa Collins reached on a walk, Holle advanced the two runners with a sacrifice bunt.
Gunderson gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead after scoring off a sacrifice bunt by Natalie Bejarano. Collins scored off a base hit by Rozanski pushing the lead to 2-0.
Chelsea Cary of UT-Martin hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings.
Rozanski started the eighth inning on second base due to the international tie-breaker rule. A sacrifice bunt by Allie Pennock moved Rozanski to third base, and a wild pitch allowed her to score.
UT-Martin tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, and won the game when Kara Harper hit a single down the left field line sending the winning run home.
Milian was on the mound for BSU, she drops to 3-3 overall.
Minnesota took an early lead in game three as Sila Fernandez scored off a double by Malisa Barnes.
Amber Nelson hit a solo home run for the Golden Gophers to increase their lead. Bethany Wolvington scored Minnesota's final run by advancing on a wild pitch.
The Cardinals fall to 6-7 overall. They stole a total of 12 bases in the first three games of the tournament. Rozanski and Pennock led the way with three steals each.
BSU will face Northern Iowa at 10 a.m. and finish the tournament at 12:30 when they face Dartmouth.
