Women's Basketball Hosts Exhibition Game Friday
November 04, 2008 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team will compete for the first time this season when it hosts the Hoosier Lady Stars Friday in exhibition action at Worthen Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
"The expectations we have for this team involve three key areas of focus: the hard work of relationship with one another as we interact daily, delete we each grow in our knowledge of the game as we compete, and we increase our mental toughness and willingly expose our areas of weakness in order to grow," said head coach Kelly Packard.
The Cardinals head into the 2008-09 season as the Mid-American Conference West Division favorites, as voted on by the MAC News Media Association. Ball State won its fourth MAC West Division title in program history in 2007-08. Ball State ended last year with a 15-15 overall record and a 11-5 mark in league play.
The Cardinals return seven letterwinners from last year's squad including All-MAC First Team recipient senior guard Porchia Green and sophomore forward Emily Maggert, who garnered last year's MAC Sixth Player of the Year award. Both Green and Maggert were picked to the 2008 preseason All-MAC team. Ball State is led by seniors Green, Kiley Jarrett and Dana Moorman.
The Cardinals begin a new era under the direction of head coach Kelly Packard this season. In addition, for just the second time in program history the Ball State women's basketball team has been invited to play in the 2008 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament.
Ball State will open its season at Indiana, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m.
