Women's Basketball Inks Two Recruits

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State women's basketball coach Kelly Packard has announced the signing of her first recruiting class in Chloe Barnes (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) and Shanee' Jackson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) who have both signed national letters of intent on Wednesday afternoon, the first day of the early signing period.

“Our program is very excited to welcome Chloe Barnes and Shanee' Jackson to the Ball State University women's basketball family," said Packard. "Our recruiting priority is to focus on character, exceptional basketball ability, and a positional match for the future needs of our program. Both Chloe and Shanee' possess the qualities that fulfill our recruiting priorities and position our program for continued success.”

Barnes, a 5-9 guard from Quincy, Ill., averaged 16 points per game and eight rebounds as a junior. Barnes helped her team to a 32-2 overall record and a 27-0 stint in regular season play. Quincy Notre Dame finished fourth in the Illinois State tournament last year. Barnes was named to the AP First Team All-State Team. Over the last three years, Barnes has already surpassed the 1,000 point mark. She also plays volleyball for Quincy Notre Dame. Barnes plays AAU for the Chicago Hoops Express which is one of the top programs in the country.

“Chloe is a very gifted perimeter player with a great combination of both size and strength," said Packard. "Her offensive game is balanced as she possesses strong shooting ability as well as the capability to slash and read the defense. Chloe has a very mature aptitude for the technical aspect of the game and has displayed natural leadership qualities setting the tone for her team both offensively and defensively with the energy she brings to the court.”

Jackson, a 5-8 guard from Hilliard, Ohio averaged 12 points, five steals and six rebounds per game as a junior. Jackson was a state finalist and district champion at Hilliard Darby in the long jump. She plays AAU with the Midwest Xpress.

“Shanee' is a tenacious intense defender," said Packard. "Her aggressive approach on the defensive end of the court is contagious for her teammates and fun to watch. She loves the environment of competition and challenges her teammates to play with great passion and focus. Shanee' is a great fit for our tempo transition offensive style of play. She naturally pushes the ball in transition and has the ability to penetrate the defense and create offensive opportunities for her teammates.”

“Shanee' and Chloe will have the opportunity to contribute immediately with the vacancy which will be created on the perimeter with the graduation of current seniors Porchia Green and Kiley Jarrett," commented Packard. "Ball State University fans have been accustomed to high energy and a feisty approach to competition, and Chloe and Shanee' compliment this style perfectly.”
