Football Suffers 38-20 Loss at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ? Ball State suffered a 38-20 loss at Big Ten Conference opponent Indiana Saturday afternoon in a game that saw the Cardinals lead early before the IU offense took over the contest.

"Our kids are playing hard, but we did not play hard enough to win," Ball State head coach Brady Hoke says. "They are a good Big Ten team, give them credit for the win. We have to play better as a team. They have good football players and their quarterback did a good job of picking up our pressure. They put together a good pass rush, and we have to be able to handle that and execute better. It was a disappointing performance for us. As coaches, we have to pay attention to all the details, and we have to coach better."

Ball State drops to 5-5 on the season while the Hoosiers improve to 6-4. The Cardinals remain 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference West Division with two divisional games set to end the regular season.

The Cardinals will host Toledo in a nationally televised game on ESPN2, Tues., Nov. 13, at Scheumann Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

On Indiana's first possession of the third quarter, Indiana's Lewis threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Hardy with 8:35 left, giving the Hoosiers a 31-17 edge over the Cardinals.

On Ball State's first possession of the third quarter, Ball State put together a 10-play drive culminating in a 17-yard scoring pass from Nate Davis to Daniel Ifft. The touchdown was the first of Ifft's career and closed the gap to 24-17.

Indiana increased its lead to 24-10 on a 24-yard pass play from Lewis to James Hardy.
