MUNCIE, Ind. - - After guiding the Ball State men's volleyball team to wins over Lewis and the New Jersey Institute of Technology last week, sophomore setter Ethan Pheister (Shorewood, Wis./Shorewood H.S.) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Player of the Week. This is Pheister's second career MIVA Player of the Week honor.
"Ethan has done a great job running our team's offense this season," said BSU head coach Joel Walton. "We are starting to see hitting percentages above .300 for the first time in four to five years. Our hitters are gaining confidence with Ethan as their setter and leader, which is starting to show in our team's performance on the court."
In last Friday's thrilling come-from-behind league victory over Lewis, Pheister dished out a career-high 61 assists, while tying a then career-high with eight digs. He also added three total blocks (including the game four winning solo block), six kills and a .857 (6-0-7) attack percentage, while guiding the team to a .300 (71-26-150) hitting mark.
The following night versus NJIT, Pheister handed out 31 assists and guided BSU to a .413 (40-9-75) attack percentage in the three games he played. He also tied for team-high honors with a career-high nine digs.
For the week, Pheister guided the Ball State offense to a .338 (111-35-225) rate of success and averaged 11.50 assists, 2.12 digs, .75 blocks and .88 kills per game while hitting .875 (7-0-8).
The Ball State men's volleyball team returns to action Friday, when it opens a four match road trip with a 7 p.m. contest at Pacific.
