
Swimming & Diving Loses At Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State University men's and women's swimming and diving team fell to the 2007 Mid-American Conference Champions Eastern Michigan on Saturday evening.
The women put up a hard fought meet only losing to EMU 167.5 to 127.5. The Cardinals took home first place honors over the Eagles in the 400 free relay. The foursome of Katie Bylsma (Westfield, Ind./Pinckney), Addison Del Rio (Munster, Ind./Munster), Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper) and Michelle Huang (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart) clocked in a time of 3:35.91.
Gramelspacher also won the 500 free with a time of 5:09.86 and the 200 fly after swimming a 2:06.34.
Mary Ehresma (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) earned a first place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:36.61.
The men managed to win the 400 free relay. The quartet of Joshy Young (Huntington, Ind./North), Ben Battjes (Highland, Ind./Highland), Austin Laska (Palos Park, Ill./A.A. Stagg) and Ben Karwoski (Bluffton, Ind./Bluffton) swam a 3:14.94 for the victory.
Kyle Hembree (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) swam a 4:13.26 to capture first in the 400 IM.
In diving, David Linn (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) won the men's 3-meter with a score of 262.50. Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) scored a 262.50 for second place honors in the 1-meter while teammate Stephanie Paul (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) was second in the 3-meter with a 257.85.
The Cardinals return to Lewellen Aquatic Center on Saturday, Feb. 2. The women will take on Ohio University at 1 p.m.
