
Gymnastics Falls To Illinois State In Home Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State University women's gymnastics team (0-2) dropped its meet to Illinois State (2-0) at Irving Gymnasium on Friday night, 190.525 to 187.325.
Despite the loss the Cardinals defeated the Redbirds on the floor event after scoring a 48.200 to their 47.775. Senior Erica Gilkerson (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) won the floor with a stunning routine that earned her a score of 9.825. Ball State senior Kristin Sprague (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) and sophomore Brittney Bauer (Springfield, Mo./Glendale) tied for second with career high totals of 9.800.
Gilkerson also took second place honors on vault (9.775) while teammate sophomore Laura Shockey took second on beam (9.400). Newcomer Paige Oswalt (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) was Ball State's top finisher on bars after scoring a 9.625.
BSU improved its score from last week's competition after finishing the meet at Western Michigan with a team total of 185.450.
The Cardinals continue their two meet home stand when they host Kent State at Irving Gym on Friday, Jan. 25. The meet will begin at 7 p.m.
