After a CMU kill started the match, the Cardinals scored the next three points on kills from Brittany May (Gaston, Ind./Wes-Del H.S.), Breivogel and Elaina Kakatolis (Arcanum, Ohio/Franklin Monroe H.S.) to pull ahead 3-1. Unfortunately, that was the only lead the Cardinals had in the game, as after a BSU attack error, CMU's Courtney Kersten served the next six points, scoring three aces, to give the Chippewas a 8-3 lead. Central Michigan eventually won the game 30-19.
The second game started with eight ties, five lead changes and the teams battling to an 11-11 tie. From there, Central Michigan was able to capitalize on a BSU attack error and Kersten's fourth ace of the match, to pull ahead by two points on the way to a 19-3 game-winning run, ending the set at 30-14.
In the final frame, the Chippewas scored six of the first seven points and never looked back, winning the game 30-22.
In addition to holding a decisive hitting advantage, CMU out-blocked BSU 6-2, while holding an 11-4 advantage in aces. Both teams logged 45 digs.
Ball State continues its trip through the state of Michigan tomorrow, with a 7 p.m. league match at Eastern Michigan.
