YPSILANTI, Mich. - - The Ball State women's volleyball team concluded its brief swing through Michigan with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-18, 30-24) Mid-American Conference loss to Eastern Michigan Friday night in Ypsilanti.
With the loss, the Cardinals' record falls to 1-13 (0-2 MAC), while the Eagles improve to 10-5 (1-0 MAC) with the victory.
In the match, BSU freshman libero Alyssa Rio (Wayne, Ill./St. Francis H.S.) continued her consecutive double-figure digs streak, logging a match-high 19.
BSU's offense faired a little better then in the league-opener versus Central Michigan last night, as the Cardinals combined for a .054 (33-26-129) attack percentage.
Individually, sophomores Julie Breivogel (Boonville, Ind./Boonville H.S.) and Elaina Kakatolis (Arcanum, Ohio/Franklin Monroe H.S.) tied for team-high honors with eight kills each, while senior Brittany May (Gaston, Ind./Wes-Del H.S.) chipped in seven.
The EMU offense, which finished with a .176 (49-24-142) attack percentage, was led by Katie Bates and Becky Reenders who each collected 10 kills. Kate Sulewski added a team-best 12 digs.
The Ball State women's volleyball team continues MAC play Thursday, with a 7 p.m. match at Toledo, before returning to Worthen Arena Saturday a 7 p.m. contest against Buffalo.
