Women?s Basketball Names Hall Assistant Coach

MUNCIE, Ind. ? Ball State women's basketball head coach Tracy Roller completed her coaching staff as she announced the hiring of longtime Kokomo High School head coach Charlie Hall as assistant coach. Hall is a 1980 graduate of Ball State and is a three-time recipient of the BSU Alumnus Coach of the Year award.

“Charlie Hall has been a great mentor to me throughout my coaching career,” Roller said. “He is a proven winner with incredible knowledge of the game of basketball and is very well known in the state of Indiana as a premier coach.”

Hall was the varsity girls head coach at Kokomo High School for eight seasons (1997-2004, 2005-06) where he compiled an overall record of 172-22. His overall winning percentage of .886 was the highest percentage among active boys and girls coaches in Indiana upon his retirement in 2006.

“I am excited to be here at Ball State and work with such an up-and-coming program,” Hall said. “I have followed the Cardinals over the past few years, and I know the job that this staff has done to raise the program to another level. This is a great opportunity for me to work with a coach like Tracy and her staff.”

Hall guided the Lady Kats to unprecedented success during his tenure as they captured eight outright North Central Conference (NCC) titles in eight seasons. His teams compiled an amazing 54-1 conference record during his career. He led his team to the 2002-03 state championship and a perfect 26-0 record that season. He earned NCC Coach of the Year honors seven out of his eight seasons and was inducted into the Howard County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Under his guidance, 17 players have gone on to play basketball at some level of college play, including nine players who went on to the Division I ranks. Five of his players have been named Indiana All-Stars, including current Cardinal Audrey McDonald. Hall was also the KHS boys' varsity assistant coach from 1980-1997 under head coach Basil Mawbey.

“I am excited for Charlie to join our great staff as he brings his championship mentality and work ethic to our BSU family,” Roller said. “He will be a great recruiting asset as he coached several Division I players, many of which played in the MAC. We look forward to him joining our staff.”
