August 20, 2007 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- With some of the top players in program history on the other side of the net, the Ball State women's volleyball team was able to pick up a 4-0 (30-23, 30-17, 30-20, 15-10) victory in an extended match versus BSU alumni Saturday night at Worthen Arena.
"I thought we played a little tight at the beginning of the match," said BSU head coach Dave Boos. "However, as the match went along, the team settled in and we were able to duplicate our practice performance. Overall, our tough serving was the difference in the match, and I hope to build off of it this weekend."
As a team, the Cardinals logged 15 service aces in the match, with junior middle blocker Christine Kennedy (San Marcos, Calif./University of San Diego H.S.) pacing the way with six and freshman libero Alyssa Rio (Wayne, Ill./St. Francis H.S.) adding five.
On the defensive end, Rio and Kennedy once again paced the team with 23 and 16 digs, respectively. Also posting double-digit digs in the match were senior setter Angie Parrell (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights H.S.) with 15 and sophomore defensive specialist Madison Monk (Granger, Ind./Penn H.S.) with 14.
Offensively, sophomore outside hitter Julie Breivogel (Boonville, Ind./Boonville H.S.) collected a match-best 16 kills, while sophomore opposite side attacker Elaina Kakatolis (Arcanum, Ohio/Franklin Monroe H.S.) added 13 and senior outside hitter/middle blocker Brittany May (Gaston, Ind./Wes-Del H.S.) added 10.
As a team, the Cardinals finished the match with a .232 (55 kills-19 errors-155 attempts) attack percentage, while adding 87 digs.
