ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Former Ball State baseball standout and current Indianapolis Indian Bryan Bullington earned the win in Wednesday night's Triple-A All-Star Game, helping the International League to a 7-5 victory over the Pacific Coast League.
Bullington earned the start for the IL and pitched the first two innings. He allowed two runs on two hits while striking out four batters.
The IL grabbed the lead early with four runs in the first inning and never trailed in the game. Behind 7-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the PCL plated three runs to close the gap. But neither team managed a run over the final five innings as the IL held on for the win.
Bullington was one of three Indians players in the game, joining teammates Brian Bixler and Yurendell de Caster. The former Cardinal entered the All-Star break with a 10-4 record and a 4.04 ERA in 16 starts. He got off to a hot start, compiling a 4-0 record and a 1.17 ERA in April as he earned the team's MVP honor for the month.
An Indianapolis native, Bullington wrapped up his Ball State career in 2002 as the school's all-time leader in wins and strikeouts. That year, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected the right-hander with the first pick in the Major League Baseball draft, making him the first Cardinal ever to be taken No. 1 overall.
