COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Five Ball State track and field athletes competed in the NCAA Regional Championships.
Sixteen Audrey J. Walton Stadium records and 13 regional records fell as the LSU Tigers won both the men's and women's Mideast Regional competitions May 25-26.
Amber Williams highlighted the meet for the Cardinals. Williams finished seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 13.48. Williams qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals as the top eight runners advance.
In the finals Williams recorded a fifth place finish, and improved her time to 13.19. The time qualifies her for the NCAA Championships held in Sacramento Calif. June 6, and the USA Track and Field Championships held June 21 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Williams is the first BSU track and field female athlete to compete in the USA Track and Field Championships since LaTasha Jenkins. Jenkins competed in the 200-meter dash in 1997 and 1999.
Rose Lehe finished her Ball State career with an 18th place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase clocking in at 10:56.10.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Christina Whitt, Williams, Voni Ferguson and Katie Johnson placed ninth with a time of 45.71.
Williams also qualified for the 100-meter dash, but did not finish due to a false start. Ferguson qualified for the 400-meter dash, but was unable to complete the race due to a leg cramp.
Williams will return to action June 6 as she competes in the NCAA Championships.
