
Golden Flashes Sweep Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State softball team fell to 20-34 overall with a 6-12 Mid-American Conference record Friday as they were swept by Kent State 11-2 and 5-0.
Ball State only managed to record three hits, as the Golden Flashes used three pitchers to shut down the Cardinals offense.
Kylie Reynolds was on the mound in game one for the Golden Flashes. Reynolds leads the MAC conference with 242 strikeouts. She recorded four strikeouts against Ball State, but she also gave up two runs.
Gabrielle Burns came in to finish the game for Kent State. Burns recorded eight strikeouts in five innings while only allowing one Ball State hit.
Abby Gross put Ball State on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the second inning. Gross currently holds the BSU career home run record with 15.
Ball State was able to score another run in the third inning. Alisha Etzler got hit by a pitch to start the inning. After Reynolds hit Etzler she was replaced by Burns. Burns walked Allie Pennock and Kelli Jeziorski to load the bases.
Taylor Yancey grounded into a double play, but Etzler was able to score to make the game 5-2 in favor of Kent State.
KSU recorded three runs in the fourth inning as they recorded five hits. Three of the hits were doubles, as the Flashes went up 8-2. Kent State recorded three more runs off three hits in the seventh inning.
Elizabeth Milian was on the mound for the first four innings. Milian recorded four strikeouts, but also gave up 10 hits. Laura Masch came in for the final three innings. Masch also recorded four strikeouts while allowing five hits.
Amanda Pick recorded the only hit for Ball State in game two. Kent State took an early lead by scoring four runs in the first two innings. Kim Hamilton was 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Flashes.
Brittney Robinson threw a complete game to record her 12th win of the season. Robinson threw a one-hitter and struck out eight BSU batters.
Amanda Pick was on the mound for the Cardinals. Pick falls to 6-12 on the season.
Ball State will return to action May 5 as they host the Buffalo Bulls at 2 p.m.
