Phillips Named Academic All-MAC

MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior Aaron Phillips (Effingham, Ill./Saint Anthony) of the Ball State men's tennis team has been named Academic All-Mid-American Conference. The announced was made on Wednesday, May 2 by the league office.
Phillips owns a 3.519 GPA while pursuing a degree in general studies. The junior was recently selected Second Team All-MAC. He primarily played at No. 2 singles and doubles for the Cardinals this season.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Ball State ended the season with a second-place finish in conference play. The Cardinals lone loss of the season came against conference champion Western Michigan. Ball State was just one-point from winning the tournament championship April 28 but lost to the Broncos, 4-3.
