MUNCIE, Ind. -- Senior Kallie Harrison, who completed her Ball State collegiate golf career in April, has been named to the eight-person 2007 Women's Golf Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.
A total of eight student-athletes were named to the team. The number of honorees on the MAC All-Academic Team are the number that is set for the specific sport or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
Harrison completed her senior season as BSU's most consistent performer in 2006-07. Harrison ranked among the top-10 women's golfers in the MAC with her team-leading 78.15 overall stroke average.
She fired a spring-low round of 72 at the Rio Verde Invitational and was BSU's top golfer in four of six spring events and also in three of five events in the fall. She set the BSU school-record with a round of 71 at Denver.
Kent State had two student-athletes honored on this year's team. Leading the 2007 MAC Champions was All-MAC first-team honoree and MAC Championship Medalist Kira Meixner, while teammate and All-MAC second-team selection Maddi Swaney also garnered All-Academic honors.
Eastern Michigan's Stephany Fleet was named to the team after also being named to the All-MAC first-team, while All-MAC second-team selections Natalie Storck (Toledo) and Erin Thorne (Western Michigan) also received Academic All-MAC recognition. It's the third consecutive year that Thorne has been selected for the team, while it's the second time in as many years that Storck has been honored. Ohio's Kristen Mautz and Northern Illinois' Abbie Many rounded out this year's team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
