Four Cardinals Receive All-MAC Honors

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Senior Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), junior Aaron Phillips (Effingham, Ill./Saint Anthony), sophomore Jose Perdomo (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Jose) and freshman Bret Berryman (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) of the Ball State University men's tennis team have received All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2006-07 tennis season. The announcement was made by the league office May 1.

Epkey was named the 2007 MAC Player of the Year. He was also selected to the All-MAC First Team for the second straight season and to the All-MAC Tournament Team. The senior posted a 14-10 in the spring with a 3-1 league record. Epkey also was undefeated in the league tournament at No. 1 singles and doubles. He defeated two ranked opponents in the fall, No. 94 Brady Crosby of Western Michigan and No. 88 Marco Born of Middle Tennessee State. The MAC Player of the Year award began in 1997 and since then the Cardinals have had five players receive the honor.

Perdomo received First Team All-MAC honors and was named to the All-MAC Tournament Team. Perdomo played alongside Epkey at No. 1 doubles, which upset the No. 34 twosome from Western Michigan -- Bryan Norville and Alex Birchmeier -- during the regular season and again at the MAC championships.

Perdomo ended the season on a high note with a win at No. 2 singles against WMU's Brady Crosby. Teammate Aaron Phillips earned Second Team All-MAC and Berryman was named MAC Freshman of the Year. Berryman was undefeated in the MAC with a 5-0 league record.

Ball State ended the season with a second-place finish in conference play. The Cardinals lone loss of the season came against conference champion Western Michigan. Ball State was just one-point from winning the tournament championship April 28 but lost to the Broncos, 4-3.
