April 04, 2007 | Softball
CHARLESTON, Ill. -- The Ball State softball team traveled to Charleston, Ill. to play a doubleheader, but with wet conditions game one was delayed and game two was cancelled.
In game one, both teams started off slow as the Cardinals got on the scoreboard first in the sixth inning. Allie Pennock hit a two-out single up the middle to get things started for Ball State.
Kelli Jeziorski delivered an RBI double that scored Pennock, and allowed Jeziorski to move to third base on the throw to home. Taylor Yancey came to the plate with Jeziorski at third and was walked. Yancey went on to steal second base, during the play there was a throwing error by the second basemen that allowed Jeziorski to score.
The Cardinals started the seventh inning with Elizabeth Milian hitting a double to the gap in left centerfield. Freshman Brittany Jones came in to pinch run for Milian. Amanda Pick singled to right centerfield allowing Jones to score and making 3-0.
Ball State couldn't hold off the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh as Eastern Illinois loaded the bases with two outs. Two EIU runners scored on a throwing error while the other two were sent home in a game-ending two RBI double.
Elizabeth Milian was on the mound for Ball State. Milian had four strikeouts and did not walk any Panthers, but the Cardinals were unable to stop the Panthers comeback and she falls to 8-8 on the season.
