Cardinals Compete in Stan Lyons Invitational; No Team Scoring

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Ball State track and field team competed in the Stan Lyons Invitational. Nearly 1,000 competitors gathered at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium for the event.
The meet featured multiple Indiana schools including Butler, Indiana, Indiana State and the University of Indianapolis. Other schools involved were Bellarmine, Bradley, Xavier, Wright State, Eastern Illinois, Western Kentucky, Northwestern, and Dayton.
The Stan Lyons Invitational is named for Coach Stan Lyons, the long-time Butler track and cross country mentor who was also the 1958 NCAA Champion in the pole vault while competing at Ohio State.
Although the invitational was a non-scoring meet, many Ball State competitors recorded their fastest times of the season in their respective events.
Amber Williams won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.77. The time places Williams in a three-way tie for second all-time in BSU history in the 200-meter event. The time is also a regional qualifying mark. Last week Williams qualified in the 100-meter hurdles.
Williams also won the 100-meter hurdles finishing in 13.72. Teammate Katie Johnson took second place in 14.08, while Lanae Stovall placed sixth with a time of 14.83.
Ali Bishel recorded her fastest time of the season in the 3000-meter run. Bishel took first place with a time of 10:05.67. The Cardinals also had Vanessa Gilbert (4th - 10:30.54), Kelsey Nielson (8th ? 10:44.08), and Brittany Ade (11th ? 10:53.10) record top finishes.
Bishel took second place in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:40.45. Lisa Arrowsmith finished 11th in 4:52.61.
Voni Ferguson won the 400-meter dash as the Cardinals had three of the top four finishers. Ferguson won the race in 55.02, Christina Whitt followed in second (55.65), and Johnson placed fourth (57.73).
The relay team of Ferguson, Whitt, Johnson, and Jenna Schmitmeyer won the 4x400 meter relay in 3:49.10.
Schmitmeyer recorded her best time of the season in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.94) in route to finishing third in the race.
Ball State got another third place finish from Amanda Ponsot in the 800-meter run. Ponsot finished in 2:16.60, her fastest time of the season. Teammate Brittany Ade followed in fourth place finishing in 2:16.97
Rose Lehe won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:51.90. Lauren McNichols recorded the second best height in the pole vault (10-11.75).
Terri Abraham placed second in the long jump with a distance of 19-04.00. Last week at the Dave Rankin Invitational Abraham reached a regional qualifying mark.
Abraham also placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 39-08.50, her best jump of the season.
Ball State will return to action May 5 at the Butler Twilight held in Indianapolis, Ind.
