
Women's Tennis Blanks Akron In MAC Dual Action

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's tennis team (6-8, 1-1 MAC) swept Akron 7-0 in Mid-American Conference dual action Saturday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals started out the match by claiming the doubles point with wins in all three flights. At No. 1 doubles Haly Calderwood and Sophie Quist earned a 7-6 (7-2) win over their opponent Tanya Gombera and Amy Sherlock. Jennifer Pollack and Christine Stromberg won at No. 2 doubles against Jenna Larson and Lindsey Berry by a score of 8-3. Stephanie Farrar and Polina Askerko beat Alyssa Carlson and Laura Hemlepp 8-3 to complete the sweep.
At No. 1 singles Quist collected her first conference win over Tanya Gombera, 6-1, 3-6, 10-7. Calderwood tallied a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Larson at the No. 2 spot. Pollack managed a 6-0, 4-6, 10-3 defeat over Sherlock at the No. 3 flight. Stromberg and Askerko also collected their first league victories as freshman at No. 4 and 6 respectively. Emma Retter finished singles play for BSU after a 6-2, 6-2 win against Carlson.
Ball State continues MAC play at home on Friday, March 30 against Eastern Michigan. The match will begin at 1 pm at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center or the YMCA Tennis Center weather permitting.
