Men's Tennis Suffers Close Loss To UNLV, 4-3

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - The Ball State University men's tennis team came close to upsetting UNLV after suffering a 4-3 loss on Wednesday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Cardinals fall to 4-7 on the season while UNLV improved to 4-8.

BSU opened the day with two straight losses at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles which earned UNLV the team point. Joe Vallee and Jarrod Epkey pulled off the lone doubles victory for the Cardinals after defeating David Campbell and Slavko Bijelica, 8-7.

Ball State which was playing for the first time outdoors this spring experienced extreme heat during singles play. BSU captured wins at the No. 2, No.3 and No. 4 spots. Aaron Phillips won at the No. 2 flight by a score of 6-1, 6-4 after beating Brett Hunter. Jose Perdomo followed with a 7-6, 7-5 victory over Campbell while Bret Berryman rounded out the wins for the Cardinals 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 against Jonathan Hooper.

Ball State begins Mid-American Conference play on Friday, March 23 at Buffalo. The match will begin at 7 pm.
