Softball Travels To Compete In The Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic

TOURNAMENT INFO
The Ball State softball team will travel to Carbondale, Ill., to compete in the Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic. . . . BSU comes into the tournament with a 3-7 overall record . . . Other teams in the tournament include Western Illinois (2-2), Southern Illinois (12-3), Ohio University (5-8) and Indiana (2-3).
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Ball State left the MTSU Tournament with a 1-4 record making them 3-7 overall . . . Kamilah Holle was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for her performance in the MTSU Tournament . . . Holle led the offense with a .428 batting average, two home runs, six RBIs, and three stolen bases . . . Abby Gross continues to make an impact with a .455 batting average (15-for-33), three home runs and seven RBIs . . . A player on the rise is senior Kelli Jeziorski . . . Jeziorski hit two home runs in the MTSU tournament, taking her season total to four which leads the team . . . She has 10 RBIs which is second to only Holle.
ABOUT THE WESTERWINDS
Western Illinois comes into the the Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic with a 2-2 overall record . . . Nicole Green leads the Westerwinds at the plate with a .625 batting average (5-for-8), one home run and four RBIs . . . Kamren Ferguson leads the pitching rotation with an overall record of 1-1 . . . Ferguson has recorded 11 strikeouts in 13 innings with a 3.45 ERA . . . The all-time series between Ball State and Western Illinois is tied at 3-3.
ABOUT THE SALUKIS
Southern Illinois enters the Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic with the best record of any team, 12-3 . . . Sophomore Katie Wagner leads the Salukis at the plate with a .361 batting average, one double, four home runs, and a team high 11 RBIs . . . Freshman Katie Wilson has made an immediate impact at the plate . . . Four of her eight hits of the season have been home runs . . . The Salukis look for senior Ashley Hamby to continue her dominating performance on the mound . . . Hamby is 7-1 on the season with a 0.98 ERA . . . Hamby has pitched 57 innings and has recorded 59 strikeouts . . . Southern Illinois leads the all-time series 9-5.
ABOUT THE BOBCATS
Due to cold weather forecasts for the Carbondale, Ill. area, the Ohio softball team will not be traveling to Southern Illinois this weekend for the Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic.
ABOUT THE HOOSIERS
The 2-3 Hoosiers are led by Jennilee Huddlest. . . Huddlest leads the team with a .417 batting average . . . She has recorded one double, one home run and four RBIs . . . Jennifer Moore has started the season with a 1.40 ERA . . .Moore has a 1-1 record entering the tournament while only allowing seven hits and four runs . . . Indiana leads the all-time series 33-23.
HOME RUN WATCH
The Cardinals are only ten games into the season, but after recording 15 home runs in two tournmanets, the team is chasing the BSU single-season home run record . . . The record stands at 18 set by the 2005 team.
STEALING THE SHOW
The Cardinals have stolen 31 bases this season after only playing in two tournaments . . . Last year's team only stole 16 bases the entire season . . . At the current rate BSU should challenge the school record of 98 stolen bases in a single season (1991).
GROSS DIGS THE LONG BALL
Junior Abby Gross hit a home run in the MT Strikeout Breast Cancer Classic for the Cardinals . . . Gross currently ranks second all-time for career home runs with 10 . . . The record stands at 12 by Ruth Hjelmeland who played from 2000-03.
KELLI KO'S HER FOURTH HOMERUN
Senior Kelli Jeziorski has four home runs early in the 2007 season . . . The BSU single season record for home runs in one season is six by Misty Snider during the 1999 season.

The 2007 Ball State team is complete with only 13 players. . . The team looks for leadership from the two seniors, Kelli Jeziorski and Taylor Yancey . . . Ball State's juniors make huge impacts as Abby Gross leads the team from behind the plate with a .455 batting average . . . Amanda Pick controls the mound with a 3.76 ERA.

“Around the Bases with Coach Craig Nicholson” will be on Monday nights starting at 7 p.m. . . . The show will begin March 26th and will continue to the end of the season . . .
