MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State men's volleyball senior outside attacker Nick Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller H.S.) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Shondell/Dunlap Division Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29 through Feb. 4, as announced today by the league office. Meyer picks up the award for the fourth time in his career, after earning the honor twice last season and once in 2005.
“Nick played a large role in our win over Lewis last weekend,” said head coach Joel Walton. “He was not only able to post big offensive numbers, scoring 17 kills, but he also had a big night for us on the defensive end, with 12 digs and five blocks. He played a great all-around match, and it is nice to see him honored for it.”
In the Cardinals' victory over the Flyers last Friday, Meyer recorded his first double-double of the season with 17 kills and a season-high 12 digs. In addition, he tied for team-high honors with five total blocks, one solo and four assists.
With the 17-kill effort versus Lewis, Meyer raised his career total to 57 matches with double-figure kills, which ranks eighth on BSU's all-time list. In addition, Meyer enters the week ranked ninth in school annals with 1,075 career kills.
On the season, Meyer is averaging 4.87 points (ranking 13th nationally), 4.60 kills (ranking 12th nationally), 1.72 digs and 0.72 blocks per game.
