Rusche Named MAC West Division Player Of The Week

MUNCIE, Ind. ? Ball State junior forward Lisa Rusche (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Rusche guided the Cardinals to the outright MAC West Division championship with victories over Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan last week to improve to 21-5 overall on the season.

“We are really excited that Lisa has been recognized for her two big games this past week that helped us take home the MAC West Division championship,” head coach Tracy Roller said. “She played a key role in both our wins and is playing with a lot of confidence right now.”

Rusche averaged 20 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals in the two games. She connected on 75 percent (18-of-24) from the field for the week and was four-of-five from the charity stripe. Against Central Michigan, she posted her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. She connected on 11-of-15 from the field in the victory.

Rusche followed that up with a 14-point effort against Eastern Michigan as she was seven-of-nine from the field. She scored one of the biggest baskets of the evening to put the Cardinals in position for the last second victory. On the season, she is third on the team in scoring at 11 points per game and second in rebounding at 6.9 boards per contest.

This is the first ever weekly honor for Rusche and the fourth weekly honor of the season for the Cardinals as senior Kelsey Corbin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop H.S.) has picked up the honor twice this season while junior Julie DeMuth (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville H.S.) added the other honor. Rusche and the Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to MAC West rival Northern Illinois at 8 p.m. (ET)
