Men?s Volleyball Hosts Alumni Match Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's volleyball team continues its 2007 fall schedule this weekend with its annual Alumni Match Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Irving Gym. The contest will pit the 2007-08 Cardinals against some of the top players in recent program history.
Admission for the event is FREE for everyone wishing to attend.
"We are really looking forward to Sunday's match," said Ball State head coach Joel Walton. "We have some great alumni coming in, which will test our young squad. It is always fun and entertaining to watch our team battle some of the best alumni to play for the program. This is a pride match for both teams, and I expect it to be a very competitive contest."
The 2007 alumni squad features six All-MIVA First Team selections; Nick Meyer (2006 & 07), Evan Berg (2005), Jary Delgado (2004), Matt Denmark (2003), Keith Schunzel (2002, 03 & 04) and Paul Fasshauer (2001 & 02).
In last season's meeting, the Alumni picked up a 3-1 (30-26, 30-23, 30-29, 25-30) victory, winning the first three sets before playing a fourth frame.
Schunzel - - who played for the Cardinals from 2001-04 - - guided the alumni offense to a .325 (54-15-120) hitting percentage through the first three games last year, paving the way for the win. Schunzel finished the night with match-highs of 52 assists and 11 digs, while adding six kills and a team-high three total blocks.
The 2007-08 BSU squad is led by 2007 AVCA All-America Second Team libero Ian Peckler, who ranked sixth in the nation last season with a 2.65 digs-per-game average.
Overall, the 2007-08 Ball State men's volleyball roster features two seniors, five juniors, six sophomores and seven freshman, including Lee Meyer - - the younger brother of Nick Meyer - - who will carry on the family tradition in the No. 1 jersey.
Other dates on the Ball State men's volleyball schedule include a Nov. 11 trip to Ohio State, a Nov. 18 tournament at IPFW and a Dec. 1 tournament at Loyola.
