DeMuth And Green Named Preseason All-MAC West Division

MUNCIE, Ind. ? Ball State senior forward Julie DeMuth (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) and junior guard Porchia Green (Indianapolis, Ind./Arlington) have been named to the preseason All-Mid-American Conference West Division Team the conference office announced on Wednesday. The Cardinals are the only team in the MAC with multiple representatives on the preseason team.

DeMuth and Green are two of four starters returning from last season's MAC West Division championship team that finished the year with a 24-7 overall record. The Cardinals also returned to the postseason last year as they hosted a Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) second-round game.

“What a great honor for Julie and Porchia to be included in the prestigious preseason All-MAC selections,” head coach Tracy Roller said. “Those voting for this team realize what our team and staff already know, that Porchia and Julie are a big part of our past success.”

DeMuth, a 5-10 forward, earned First Team All-MAC honors last season and was named to the All-MAC Tournament Team. She led the Cardinals in scoring at 15.5 points and in rebounding at 8.8 boards per game. She scored in double figures in 27 of 31 games last season and posted a team-high 11 double-doubles.

DeMuth became the 18^th player in BSU history to reach the 1,000-point mark in her career last season accomplishing the feat in the Cardinals' WNIT game against Kentucky. She enters her senior season second all-time in career free throws made (328), third in free throws attempted (439), third in double-doubles (24), fifth in rebounds (731), ninth in steals (148) and 18^th all-time in scoring (1,016).

Green, a 5-8 guard, has been picked as a member of the preseason All-MAC team for the first time in her career after turning in a breakout performance last year. She finished fourth on the team in scoring at 10.7 points and third in rebounding at 6.2 boards per contest. She scored in double figures in 17 games and posted four double-doubles on the season.

Green finished second on the team in assists with 112 and connected on 42.7 percent (38-of-89) from three-point land. She was the Cardinals' catalyst on the defensive end as well as she led the team with 68 steals and was second in blocked shots with 21. She played in a team-high 1,011 minutes last season, which is the second highest in program history for a single season.

“The incredible potential that Julie and Porchia both have this season is very exciting to think about,” Roller said. “They both have the eye on the team prize and are working hard each day to improve individually to contribute again to our hopeful success this season. I am so proud of both of them.”
