Ball State Head Coach Brady Hoke: Brady Hoke (Ball State ?82) is in his fifth year as the Cardinals head coach . . . Hoke, an assistant coach for the University of Michigan from 1995-2002, is one of only 18 coaches in the country to be coaching at their alma mater in 2007.
Western Michigan Head Coach Bill Cubit: Bill Cubit (Delaware ?75) is in his third season as the head coach at Western Michigan and his eighth year as a head collegiate mentor . . . Cubit owns a 18-23 coaching record at WMU and a 52-31-1 career coaching mark.
Scouting Western Michigan: The Broncos improved to 3-4 overall, 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference West Division and 2-1 overall in league play with a 17-13 win at Northern Illinois Saturday . . . WMU opened the season with three straight losses -- at West Virginia (62-24), vs. Indiana (37-27) and at Missouri (52-24) . . . The Broncos defeated Central Connecticut State (51-14) and Toledo (42-28) before suffering a narrow defeat at home to Akron (39-38) and defeating NIU.
Quick Hits: The Cardinals will play four of their last five games on the road . . . The Cardinals are 4-3 with two of those losses coming by a combined two points -- Miami University (14-13) and Nebraska (41-40) . . . Ball State ranks 17th in the nation with a +1.00 turnover margin . . . Louis Johnson (Muncie, Ind./Central H.S.), who has been slowed this season with an injury, made his first start of the season Saturday and tallied two catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns . . . Mike Dorulla (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) tied his career high with 14 tackles vs. Western Kentucky.
