Men's Tennis Drops Dual Match to DePaul

MUNCIE, Ind.- The Ball State men's tennis team (1-1) lost its first home dual match of the season 4-3 to DePaul Sunday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
BSU dropped the doubles point by a narrow margin after brothers Joe and Jarrod Epkey pulled off an 8-3 win over twosome Austin Doerner and Jose Moncada in the No. 1 slot. DePaul would win No. 2 doubles to tie the match before BSU's duo of Joe Vallee and Jimmy Brannon fell to Danny Wilson and Vanja Grgec in a tie breaker 9-8 (4) to lose the doubles point.
Joe Epkey defeated George Wang 6-1, 7-6 (3) at No. 1 singles. Teammate Aaron Phillips defeated Austin Doerner 6-4, 7-6 (2) to win No. 2 singles. DePaul went on to win No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to earn the dual match victory. Jose Perdomo closed singles action out with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Danny Wilson at the No. 6 spot.
Ball State continues action at Northwestern on January 19. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
