Matt Denmark Leads Naranjito Changos to the 2006 Superior League Championship.
September 07, 2006 | Men's Volleyball
Starting at the middle attacker position, Denmark ranked as one of the leagues top three blockers during both regular season and post season play. Including this year's Championship, Denmark has helped Naranjito win championships each of the last three seasons. This year's championship is the 22 Superior League Championship for the Naranjito Changos and marks the fourth consecutive year that the team has taken home the title.
Over the past three season's Matt Denmark's role for Naranjito has gradually increased. In 2004, Denmark's role was primarily as a back-up middle attacker. In 2005, Denmark began the season playing as a starter for the team before returning to the United States to join the USA Men's Volleyball National Team. During this year's championship run, Denmark played as a starting middle attacker in nearly all of the team's regular and post season contests.
Denmark's fourth season as a professional volleyball player begins this fall in Cyprus when he joins former MIVA players Jeff Ptak (IPFW) and Matt Zbyszewski (IPFW) playing for Omonia Nicosia. Without the help of Denmark and Zbyszewski, Ptak helped Omonia Nicosia to third place during last season's play in the Cyprus Professional Volleyball League. In addition to this year's play in Puerto Rico, Matt Denmark's professional career has included stints with teams in Portugal and Romania.
Finally, as of February 14, 2006, Denmark is still one of seven players listed on the 2006 USA Men's National Volleyball team training roster.
