Epkey and Phillips Advance at Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Pre-Qualifying Tennis Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. – Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) and Aaron Phillips (Effingham, Ill./Saint Anthony) of the Ball State University men's tennis team advanced to the third round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Pre-Qualifying Tennis Championship on Saturday (Sept. 30) hosted by the University of Tulsa.
Phillips claimed his first round of singles with a 3-6 (6-0), 7-6 (2) defeat over Andrew Stubbs of Wofford College. Phillips would then advance past the second round of play after upsetting host Luc Massdorp of Tulsa by a score of 7-6 (2), 6-2.
Epkey pulled a 7-6 (5), 6-0 upset over Florida's Andrew Bailey in his first round of action. Epkey would then surpass the second round after a 6-3 (2), 6-1 victory over Purdue's Eric Hodgman.
