Soccer Posts Scoreless Tie Against Portland State

Flagstaff, Ariz. ? The Ball State soccer team battled Portland State for 120 minutes in a 0-0 double overtime stalemate on Sunday afternoon at the Hilton Garden Inn Mountain Classic at Lumberjack Stadium. The tie is the second of the season for Ball State which now sits at 1-1-2 overall while Portland State moves to 0-3-1 on the year.

Ball State goalkeeper Rachael Murphy notched her first career shutout in the scoreless tie. Murphy recorded two saves as she played all 120 minutes for the second time this season.

The Cardinals dominated play for most of the 120 minutes of action as they out-shot the Vikings by a 25-11 margin. Junior forward Sarah Leibel spearheaded the attack as she finished with a season-high seven shots on the afternoon.

Ball State was unable to crack Portland State goalkeeper Rachel Jarvis who finished with a season-high 11 saves. The Cardinals also ran into some tough luck as sophomore Katelyn Alexander hit the cross bar in the 32^nd minute and sophomore Leah Johnson found the post in the 111^th minute.

The Cardinals will hold their home opener on Friday afternoon as BSU welcomes Indiana State to town. The game is set for a 4:30 p.m. start at the Ball State Soccer Field.
