Men's Tennis Falls To Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Ball State men's tennis team opened play a day early before the 20th annual Tom Fallon Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame on Thursday night (Sept. 22). The impromptu match up resulted in a 1-3 loss for the Cardinals in doubles while also dropping the lone singles match of the night.
In doubles action the Cardinals No. 1 duo of Jarrod Epkey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) and Aaron Phillips (Effingham, Ill./Saint Anthony) fell 8-4 to the No. 36 ranked in the preseason ITA poll, Ryan Keckley and Sheeva Parbhu. At No. 2 doubles, BSU twosome Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) and Jorge Rodriguez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/San Ignacio) captured the 8-3 victory over the Irish's Brett Helgeson and Santiago Montoya. BSU dropped its No. 3 and No. 4 doubles against Notre Dame.
In the lone singles match, Irackli Akhvlediani of Notre Dame defeated Tetta Oyama (Shizauoka, Japan) of Ball State, 8-5.
Ball State will begin play at the Tom Fall Invitational on Friday morning (Sept. 23). The Cardinals will play singles matches against the Irish, Purdue and Western Michigan.
