Five BSU Women's Golfers Named All-America Scholars
July 24, 2006 | Women's Golf
Seniors Carmen Bodine and Katie Sundberg and juniors Kallie Harrison, Holly Jones and Amber Uphaus each received the honor. It was the second straight year to earn the award for Bodine, Jones, Sundberg and Uphaus and also the second straight year the Cardinals have had five selected to the team.
The Cardinals' five selections are the second-highest by any Division I team this season, matching North Carolina-Wilmington's five honorees. South Carolina led the way with six All-America Scholars.
The five women's golfers selections also match the five by the BSU men's golf team earlier this month. In all, 10 Ball State golf student-athletes were named All-America Scholars in 2006.
"As a coach, I am just as excited about our academic accomplishments as our athletic accomplishments," says BSU head coach Katherine Mowat. "It is great for the athletes to be rewarded and recognized for their commitment to academics. I love that my team takes so much pride in their schoolwork. They are dedicated and competitive in the classroom and those qualities carry over to the golf course."
The National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar Teams for Division I, II & III included a total of 371 women's collegiate golfers recognized with the prestigious honor.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade-point average is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
