Softball Ends Season With Loss at East Division Champs
May 07, 2006 | Softball
The Flashes clobbered the Cardinals with an 11-2 hit advantage and scored the only run they would need for victory in the bottom of the first. Kent State added a six-run second inning and then a three-run third on the way to the victory, which gave the program the outright East Division title over Bowling Green.
Katie Pilger and Nicki Hellem had Ball State's only hits. Abby Zollman took the loss, allowing six runs over 1 1/3 innings. She struck out one batter. Laura Masch and Nicki Hellem each pitched in relief. Masch surrendered four runs and struck out three. Hellem scattered one hit and struck out one batter in the final inning of play.
Kent State, 28-22 overall and 16-5 in the league, will be the No. 2 seed in the 2006 MAC Tournament, which begins Wednesday in Midland, Mich. Western Michigan of the West Division earned the top seed by virtue of the best record in the league.
