STANFORD, Calif. -- The 15th-ranked Ball State doubles duo of seniors Matt Baccarani (Toronto, Ontario/Silverthorn C.I.) and Patrick Thompson (Medina, Ohio/Medina Senior) came up short in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships at the Taube Tennis Center at Stanford University Thursday.
Baccarani and Thompson were defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Pepperdine's third-ranked tandem of Andre Begemann and Scott Doerner in the round of 32.
The BSU duo, who ranked as high as No. 4 in the first poll of the season, closes out the 2006 campaign with a 7-6 overall doubles record. The two seniors defeated No. 40 Northwestern's Adam Schaechterle and Matt Christian 9-7 earlier this season. Additionally, they paired up for wins over three nationally-ranked doubles teams at the prestigious Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships in the fall.
