Muncie, Ind. - - Ball State senior women's golfer Katie Sundberg (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury H.S.) has been named to the 2005-06 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V University Division Women's At-Large Second Team as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2005-06 women's at-large team was voted on by members of CoSIDA from District V, which encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin as well as the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. To qualify for Academic All-District, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status at their university, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.2 and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.
Sundberg, who owns a 3.87 grade-point average as a business administration major, is a two-time Academic All-Mid-American Conference selection. This past season, Sundberg managed a 78.19 stroke average, the second-best on the BSU team for the 2006 spring season en route to averaging a career mark of 80.60 in her four years.
Sundberg won medalist honors at the Butler Spring Invitational and was BSU's top golfer in three spring events, including tying for sixth at the 2006 MAC Championship. Her third round score of 71 in the MAC Championships was a career-low, as well as a school record and the fourth-lowest round of the entire competition.
Sundberg, who was named MAC Player of the Week after firing a 74 in the only round of the weather shortened Butler Spring Invitational, posted four top 26 finishes in the spring, including three top 11 efforts.
Last season, Sundberg was an All-MAC First Team selection after earning medalist honors at the 2005 MAC Championships with a one shot victory over Western Michigan's Jenna Walter.
