Men's Volleyball Sails to 3-0 Victory over Mercyhurst Lakers

Erie, Pa. - - The Ball State men's volleyball team recorded its 20th win of the season - - and fifth-straight overall - - with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-20, 30-23) victory at Mercyhurst Saturday evening. With the win, BSU moves to 20-5 on the year and ends the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular season with an 8-4 mark. The Lakers fall to 3-19 (1-11 MIVA) with the loss.
The 20-win season marks the fifth time in eight years under head coach Joel Walton that BSU has broken the 20-win plateau. It is also the fifth time in the last six years BSU has reached 20-or-more wins.
In the victory, Mark Termion (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North H.S.) paced all players with career-highs of 14 kills and seven digs. He also added three total blocks and a service ace.
Doug Willmann (St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell North H.S.) also turned in a solid attacking night for BSU, scoring nine kills and hitting .467 (
Setter Dave Carlson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids H.S.) was the only BSU regular starter to play in all three games, logging a match-best 39 assists to go along with four kills, four block assists and a service ace.
Also playing in all three games for BSU were Ryan Clarke (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South H.S.) with four kills, three blocks and a dig; Mark Rumschik (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park H.S.) with four blocks, three kills and six digs and Ian Peckler (Vernon Hill, Ill./Vernon Hills H.S.) with four digs and an assist.
Todd Chamberlain (Louisville, Ky./Trinity H.S.) played in two game for BSU, scoring five kills, six digs and a pair of aces.
Four plays saw action in one game, with Patrick Durbin (Louisville, Ky./Trinity H.S.) collecting three kills and a dig; Evan Berg (Bristol, Wis./Central H.S.) scoring three kills, one dig and an assist; Matt McCarthy (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South H.S.) with two kills and a block assist; Carlos Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Florida Air Academy) with an assist and Ted Summers-Torres (San Diego, Calif./University of San Diego H.S.).
As a team, Ball State out hit the Lakers .376 (47-12-93) to .126 (39-26-103) in the contest while posting a .625 (
Nate Keegan paced the Lakers attack scoring 13 kills, while Jordan Pierson added a team-best six digs.
