Baccarani Honored as MAC Player of the Week for Second Time This Season
April 05, 2006 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State senior Matt Baccarani (Toronto, Ontario/Silverthorn C.I.) has been selected as the Mid-American Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league office. The honor marks the eighth time in his career and the fourth in 2006 in which a BSU men's tennis player has been selected for the award.
Baccarani improved his 2005-06 overall singles record to 20-7 and to 10-4 at the No. 1 singles position after easily sliding past Buffalo's Mike Rockman in a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 victory last Saturday. The win helped the Cardinals seal a 7-0 sweep over the Bulls and gave BSU its first Mid-American Conference win of the season.
Baccarani also teamed with Joe Epkey at the No. 1 doubles position and the tandem added to their undefeated record after only giving up one game in an 8-1 win over Nikesh Singh Panthlia and Yules Hadisbroto. Baccarani and Epkey maintain a 10-0 mark at the No. 1 doubles slot.
Baccarani and remainder of the BSU squad continue their 2006 MAC campaign when Toledo visits Muncie at 1 p.m. Saturday.
