Taylor Yancey put Ball State on the scoreboard first with her solo home run to lead off the second of the opener. With a 2-0 count, Yancey drove the ball over the centerfield fence to give BSU the 1-0 advantage. Miami scored four runs in the fifth, while the Cardinals managed just one more hit -- a bunt single by Kamilah Holle -- the rest of the way.
MU posted an 8-2 lead in hits. Amanda Pick took the pitching loss, dropping to 6-7 on the season. She struck out five MU batters.
In game two, Ball State outhit its host 10-8, but could not overcome a six-run explosion by Miami in the third inning. The Cardinals chipped away with two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth. BSU got on the board with Katie Pilger's lead-off bomb in the fourth and then added its second run, when Amanda Graeter singled and eventually scored on a throwing error by MU later in the inning. Sarah McGregor scored the third and final run in the sixth.
Pilger, McGregor and Graeter had two hits each to lead the Cardinals, who stranded 12 runners in the game. Starting pitcher Laura Masch took the loss after surrendering all six runs. Abby Zollman did not allow a hit in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
BSU returns home to Muncie Monday when it faces Indiana in a single game beginning at 4 p.m.
