March 06, 2006 | Women's Basketball
Ball State sophomore Julie DeMuth (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville H.S.) has been selected to the 2006 All-Mid-American Conference Third Team. The teams were announced by the conference office Monday in Cleveland, Ohio.
A member of the MAC's All-Freshman Team last season, DeMuth has played in 27 games with 24 starts in 2005-06. She currently paces the team with 11.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. Her 13 blocked shots are second for the Cardinals. DeMuth has tallied 19 double-figure scoring marks, 10 double-digit rebounding totals and a league-leading 10 double-doubles -- six versus MAC opposition -- this season. She has led BSU in scoring seven times and in rebounding 20 times over the course of the campaign.
DeMuth pulled down 18 rebounds Feb. 8 at Kent State, a mark which ties her career high, ties for fifth on BSU single-game charts and is the top individual effort in the MAC this season. She has tied or bettered eight career categories this season. She ranks No. 1 in the league in rebounding, plus places among conference leaders in five additional categories.
A tri-captain for the 2005-06 Cardinals, DeMuth was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the BSU Credit Union Classic after totaling 21 points, 22 rebounds, eight steals and four assists. She was further honored as MAC West Division Player of the Week for the first time in her career Dec. 4 after posting back-to-back double-doubles against Illinois State and Valparaiso.
"What a great honor for a sophomore player like Julie to be included in all the great upperclassmen in this league," BSU head coach Tracy Roller says. "She is one of only three that were selected. Her future in this league is very bright. She was very much deserving this year with her consistent play and all around impressive rebounding effort each night. Nobody outworks her on the court. Congratulations to Julie."
The two-year starter already ranks No. 15 on Ball State career charts with 455 rebounds. She has accumulated 24 double-figure scoring efforts, 18 double-digit rebounding marks and 18 double-doubles in her career.
DeMuth and her Ball State teammates travel to Cleveland, Ohio, Wednesday to face Kent State in MAC Tournament quarterfinal action. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena.
