Softball vs. NDSU
Ball State wrapped up a two-day appearance at the Hawkeye Classic in Iowa City, Iowa, Sunday with a 2-2 record and a third-place finish.
Sophomore pitcher Amanda Pick held North Dakota State to just three hits and a lone run in the opener, but the Bison were even stingier, yielding just two hits to BSU in taking home the 1-0 victory. NDSU scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the sixth. Pick and Katie Pilger were the only Cardinals to produce hits in the contest.
In game two, Iowa jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, then added security with two more scores in the third. The Hawkeyes had just five hits, but Ball State's offensive futility for the day resulted in just two -- one by Pilger and one by Taylor Yancey. Freshman starter Laura Masch took the loss after surrendering the first three runs. Classmate Abby Zollman pitched the final five innings in relief, giving up one earned run over the time span.
The Cardinals, who are 6-10 overall, open their 2006 Mid-American Conference slate Friday when they host Akron in a double dip with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. The contest marks BSU's first at home this season.
