Men's Volleyball Snaps Quincy's Five-Match Winning Streak

Quincy, Ill. - - After dropping the first set, the Ball State men's volleyball team rebounded to win the next three, posting a 3-1 (20-30, 30-23, 30-20, 30-24) victory at Quincy Saturday evening to snap the Hawks' five-match winning streak and end a two-match skid of its own. With the win, BSU improves to 16-5 (5-4 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association), while Quincy falls to 12-14 (3-7 MIVA).
In the win, Nick Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller H.S.) eclipsed the 20-kill mark for the second-straight night, posting a match-high 23 kills. In addition, he tallied a career-high 17 digs for his fourth double-double of the season.
Also posting double-figure kills for the Cardinals were Matt McCarthy (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South H.S.) with 11 and Patrick Durbin (Louisville, Ky./Trinity H.S.) with 10. Durbin would also tally 12 digs for his second double-double of the year.
Joining Meyer and Durbin with double-figure digs in the match were Ian Peckler (Vernon Hill, Ill./Vernon Hills H.S.) and Evan Berg (Bristol, Wis./Central H.S.) with 14 and 11, respectively, after splitting time as the team's libero. Berg would also score eight kills and a service ace.
Dave Carlson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids H.S.) paced all players with 48 assists in the contest, while connecting for six kills on nine swings for a team-high .667 attack percentage. He also paced all players with five total blocks.
Also factoring in the victory for BSU were Doug Willmann (St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell North H.S.) with five kills and three blocks; Todd Chamberlain (Louisville, Ky./Trinity H.S.) and Mark Rumschik (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park H.S.)
As a team, BSU out-hit the host Hawks .297 (63-17-155) to .165 (57-30-164). The Cardinals also held a 9.5 to 7 edge in blocks. Both teams logged 66 digs, while Quincy held a 9-5 edge in service aces.
Jon Moreno paced the Quincy offense with 18 kills, while Mike Contee led three Hawks players in double-figure digs with 16.
The Ball State men's volleyball team returns to action with a pair of home matches next week. BSU hosts Central State on Tuesday and Lewis on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to start at
