March 24, 2006 | Women's Basketball
Ball State junior Kelsey Corbin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop H.S.) has been named to the 10-member 2006 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Team, as selected by the league's faculty athletic representatives. To be eligible, a student-athlete must own a minimum 3.2 grade-point average and have played in at least 50 percent of her team's games. This marks the second-straight year Corbin has garnered the honor.
A 5-foot-9 guard, Corbin started all 28 games she played, while averaging 8.6 points, 4.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game. She accumulated 13 double-figure scoring efforts throughout the campaign. Her 11 assists combined with 14 points at Western Michigan Jan. 11 resulted in her second career double-double. Corbin, who ranked throughout the season among MAC leaders in both assists and free throw percentage, led the Cardinals in assists 17 times this season. In addition, she led or tied for team-high honors in rebounding twice and in scoring once. Her 286 career assists places her No. 10 on Ball State career charts.
A tri-captain for the second-straight season, Corbin tops the Cardinals with a 3.69 GPA as a psychology major. She is a two-time recipient of a MAC Commissioner's Award for Academic Excellence and a two-time member of the league's Academic Honor Roll.
Corbin is joined on the 2006 Academic All-MAC Team by Akron's Jessie Crooks, Bowling Green's Ali Mann, Central Michigan's Erin Kuhl and Casey Manning, Eastern Michigan's Sarah VanMetre, Kent State's Lindsay Shearer, Miami's Amber Miller, Northern Illinois' Jennifer Uptmor and Western Michigan's Carrie Moore.
