Men's Volleyball Scores 3-0 Win Over Milwaukee School of Engineering

Muncie, Ind. - - The Ball State men's volleyball team returned to action for the first time in two weeks with a 3-0 (30-19, 30-12, 30-22) victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering Friday night at Worthen Arena. With the win, BSU improves to 15-3, while MSOE falls to 6-15.
As a team, the Cardinals hit for a .400 (47-13-85) rate of success, including a career-best .769 (10-0-13) mark from redshirt sophomore Doug Willmann (St. Louis, Mo./Francis Howell North H.S.). In addition, Willmann posted a career-high 10 kills on the night, while adding a pair of block assists and a service ace.
Also scoring big for the Cardinals was freshman Todd Chamberlain (Louisville, Ky./Trinity H.S.) with a match-best 14 kills to go along with a career-best five service aces, a career-high tying nine digs and a pair of block assists.
A total of 11 Cardinals saw action in the match and helped limit the Raiders to a .059 (29-23-102) attack percentage, including a -.059 (29-23-102) mark in the opening frame.
In the opening set, the teams played to a 2-2 tie before a 15-5 run gave the Cardinals their first 10-point advantage at the 17-7 mark capped by a block assist from junior Nick Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller H.S.) and redshirt freshman Matt McCarthy (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South H.S.). Ball State went on to win the game 30-19 on a MSOE attack error.
In the second set, the Cardinals jumped ahead 4-1 and never looked back, cruising to a 30-12 victory. BSU's first 10-point advantage came at 17-6 on a block assist from junior Mark Rumschik (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park H.S.) and redshirt freshman Mark Termion (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North H.S.). Ahead 20-11, Rumschik would serve the next 10 points, pushing the score to 29-12. Chamberlain would post the game-winning kill at 30-12 on an assist from sophomore Ted Summers-Torres (San Diego, Calif./University of San Diego H.S.).
The third set was the closest of the night, as Ball State maintained just a one-point advantage at the 13-12 mark. BSU would follow with the next four points, 17-12, only to have MSOE cut the gap to one again at 19-18. Summers-Torres would remove any doubt from the BSU faithful, however, serving the Cardinals to a 24-19 advantage. Freshman Carlos Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Florida Air Academy H.S.) would score the match-winner for Ball State at 30-22 in just his second match of the year.
Sophomore libero Ian Peckler (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills H.S.) would pace all players with 12 digs in the match seeing action in all three games.
Playing in just one game, senior setter Dave Carlson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids H.S.) collected 13 assists, a kill, a dig and a block. Torres would set the final two games for BSU posting a match-best 27 assists to go along with three digs.
Also seeing limited action for BSU were regular starters Meyer with four kills, two digs and two block assists and Patrick Durbin (Louisville, Ky./Trinity H.S.) with six kills, four digs, two block assists and an assist.
McCarthy and Termion each scoring three kills on the night. McCarthy would add three block assists, while Termion collected two block assists and an ace.
Ramos would finish the contest with three kills and two dig, while Rumschik scored three kills, seven digs and two total blocks.
In addition to out-hitting the Raiders, BSU held a 40-25 edge in digs, a 7-1 advantage in service aces and an 8.5 to 6 lead in total blocks.
Mike Mocchi paced MSOE with 11 kills, while Michael Carillo scored a team-best nine digs for the Raiders.
